Living in Sweden
Sweden regularly ranks among the world’s safest, happiest, and most equal countries. The quality of life is great — clean air, excellent public services, and a strong work-life balance culture.
Stockholm is a beautiful capital with great museums, restaurants, and nightlife spread across 14 islands. Gothenburg offers a more relaxed vibe with a strong food scene. Lund and Uppsala are classic European university towns.
Swedish people speak excellent English, so you will have no language barrier in daily life. However, learning basic Swedish helps with integration and is valued by employers.
The Swedish concept of “fika” (a coffee break with pastries) reflects the culture: collaborative, social, and balanced. Student life revolves around nations (student unions) that organise events, housing, and social activities.
Career Outcomes
Sweden is home to more billion-dollar startups per capita than almost any country outside Silicon Valley. Spotify, Klarna, King, and iZettle were all founded here. Engineering, technology, sustainability, and life sciences are the strongest sectors for international graduates. A Swedish degree combined with the post-study work permit creates a real pathway to a career in Scandinavia.
